South Industries was contracted to install metal shingles on the exterior of this dome structure. The tiles provide a strong, durable, and low maintenance exterior for the building.
McLeod Hunting Lodge is located on Antelope Springs Ranch near Blackwell, Texas. This 60 by 30-foot two-story dome offers 5,200 square feet of space for the guests that stay here during the fall hunting season. With its native stone exterior and plastered interior walls, the lodge requires very little maintenance. Being in Tornado Alley, they once had a small tornado rip the roof off a building that was on the property. The McLeods then decided to have their master bedroom built in the dome to ensure their safety and security. Photos courtesy of the Monolithic Dome Institute.
This restaurant dining area was created by using a conical airform to produce a teepee-shaped building. Only, this teepee is much stronger and more energy efficient due to the insulating foam and reinforced concrete used in construction.
